This is worth reading if you are thinking of taking on a secondhand greenhouse
Fitting a greenhouse back together tips
You need a clear site, not under a tree or shaded by a hedge or fence, with enough room to get all the way around the greenhouse, your base, which can be wood, concrete or brick needs to be the right size, stable, square and level. Check the level with a spirit level. if you have a straight piece of wood long enough, check the diagonals are level as well.

Now the fun begins, sort out the Components for the Greenhouse and try to decide what goes where. If you are dismantling a second hand greenhouse, check all the bits are there and take photographs, they will be very useful later.I got half way through erecting mine and discovered a main strut was missing.

You will find that many of the nuts and bolts are missing or unusable. Greenhouse nuts and bolts are easy to find in the local DIY. It is best to buy spares before you start.

Erecting a Greenhouse, especially a large greenhouse, it is a two-person job and is best constructed in one day. Greenhouse frames are flimsy things and a  half finished frame could be damaged by the wind blowing it apart and twisting the greenhouse frame.

Glazing the Greenhouse having finally got the frame up, fitting the glass, is the next job. Start from the top, its easier, without the glass in the frame below you. This is where you discover you are short of glazing clips, its a good idea to buy a couple of packets, before you start. You will also need  buy the glass or plastic to replace those that were already broken or missing when you dismantled the greenhouse. (glass does not bend). I started out on a trip from Bristol where I collected my free greenhouse, to home with all the glass intact, only to find on arrival, most of the glass had shattered. Wrap it in newspaper and stack it securely.

  • Tips from my own experience, collecting and putting a second hand greenhouse back together.
  •  Offer to dismantle the greenhouse yourself, because unless you are a puzzle geek, you will not have a clue how to put it back together.
  •  Take some photographs before taking the greenhouse down, these will help you when you re-assemble it.
  •  Take an indelible marker and mark major pieces ? "Front Left Corner" etc
  • Take WD40 to help with stuck nuts and bolts, a metal hacksaw for solidly rusted parts, Spanners and pliers, some good gloves, handling glass with bare hands is dodgy.
  •  Before trying to re-assembling the greenhouse, buy nuts and bolts, "W" glazing clips. I used 200 on a 8 foot by 6 foot greenhouse, dropping most of them when they sprung back out as I was fitting the greenhouse glass.
  •  Take great care handling glass. Glass weakens with age and hairline cracks can cause a pane to break when you least expect.

New low price greenhouses

It makes sense to recycle greenhouses, but as demand is greater than supply, you asked if I could recommend reasonably priced new greenhouses.
Its taken a while but I have now erected a lot of new greenhouses and finally selected the range in the shop.

I found this range fairly easy and straightforward to erect .  TIP !!!  Read all of the instructions before you start assembling your new greenhouse.  Tools you will need are 10mm spanner, some screwdrivers and a pair of scissors, common sense and a lot of patience !!!! . ONE BONUS I found over buying secondhand, you are not putting together a jigsaw puzzle, the instructions really are good.

The new greenhouses are value-for-money and will do the same job greenhouses up to three times the price will do. Early sowing, growing your own peppers and other expensive fruit and vegetables and not forgetting lots of good organic tomatoes.

The greenhouses
The strong, aluminium frame (the same as used in Halls glass glazed greenhouses), is fitted with twin wall, polycarbonate glazing panels which clip in easily and are virtually unbreakable. Integral gutters, smooth action roller sliding door, and one or two vents on larger sizes are included. As well as safety, other benefits of polycarbonate are superior insulation and heat retention, and it also diffuses direct sunlight - reducing the risk of plant scorch. Delivery & Assembly: All greenhouses are delivered in one drop complete with glazing. Full assembly instructions are provided, and two people could normally expect to complete assembly in a weekend.

Tunnel Greenhouse

With a floor area of 6 sq metres (64 sq ft) you'll have room to raise young plants, and grow bumper crops of tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers etc. Strong galvanised tubular steel frame with a heavy gauge reinforced nylon, UV stabilised fitted cover.

Twin zipped door each end for easy access, and 4 large side roll-up vents with insect net panels. As with professional tunnels, good anchorage is achieved by burying the base of the cover, which is extended for this purpose. Flat packed for home assembly. Assembled size 3m (9'10") x 2m (6'6") x 1.75m (5'9") high.

Plant House with integral staging

might be Just the thing if you cant find a secondhand greenhouse!

Ideal if you need a spacious place to raise your plants, but don't want the expense and trouble of erecting a greenhouse. Comes complete with its own integral staging (both sides) that will hold up to 30 full sized seed trays, plus you can also remove the shelves and grow plants in the ground beneath. Strong coated tubular steel construction with U.V. stabilised reinforced fitted cover, with a large zipped doorway for easy access, and is well ventilated with large open/close side vents and a rear window (all with insect panels to keep pests out!). Flat packed for home assembly. Size: Width 167cm (66"), Length 120cm (47"), Height 200cm (79") when assembled

Patio greenhouse
Ideal for small gardens and its easy to erect
Expand your growing possibilities with our extra large patio greenhouse. Holding up to 16 full sized seed trays, its 4 shelves are supplied in two half sections so that one or both sections can be easily removed giving greater growing flexibility. Made from strong coated steel tube with a tough reinforced plastic U.V. stabilised cover, it is easy to access from a twin zipped door, and has the added feature of open/close side vents with fitted insect net panels to provide ventilation with protection. Flat packed for easy home assembly - no tools required. Assembled size 100cm (40") x 50cm (20") x 150cm (5') high.
