What is a Wet room?
A Wet Room is a completely waterproofed room with gently slopped floor with a built in drain that contains, or is, a walk in shower.
The wet room is built within a waterproof tray.This is called Tanking and prevents moisture and leaks escaping, causing mould, rot, and in some cases structural damage to the rest of your home.
Tiling alone cant prevent moisture escaping, all tiles, adhesives and grouts are permeable and can allow moisture to leak out.
The four main things to look for in any wet room design are : 1 The correct floor shower drain is fitted. 2 The floor slopes toward the shower drain. 3 Water proofing / Tanking is effective. 4 There is good ventilation.
What's the difference between a wet room and a wet area?
In a wet room the entire floor area and the shower walls will have been waterproofed / tanked . In a wet area just the shower area and in some cases only the floor will be waterproofed.
The benefits of a Wet room
Apart from the luxury of opening up your bathroom and creating a more attractive space, installing a shower where a traditional shower tray may not have been viable, a wet room can be installed on wooden or concrete floors, protecting your home from moisture damage and leaks.

Can a wet room be Installed in any room in a house, flat or apartment?
Almost any shower room or bathroom can be replaced by a wet room. The style will vary depending on wether you need level access for a wheelchair or your disability makes stepping up difficult. The shower drain is installed into the floor and if there is not enough space because of the depth of the flooring screed or the wooden joists are not deep enough, this may not be possible and the floor may need to be raised slightly. In this case if there is room in the hallway or landing we should be able to fit a wheelchair ramp.
